Mike Hendrix is a dedicated community activist who knows how to put Texas families first. Growing up in Singapore and Indonesia in his youth, Mike knew how to reach out to the diverse array of communities and unite them for a common cause. Mike began his career in public service at just 19, becoming one of the youngest chiefs of staff at the Texas Legislature. He has served on numerous campaigns at all levels of government, and has fought at the Capitol for a series of issues important to the working families of Texas, such as treating opioid addiction, protecting small businesses, and expanding access to health care.
Since then, he’s spent his career working to bring people together to solve real problems, whether it’s fighting for safer neighborhoods, smarter criminal justice policies, or protecting the rights and dignity of all Texans.
After decades of working behind the scenes at the Capitol and in communities across the state, Mike and his family chose to make their home in Irving because they believe in its future—diverse, hard-working, and full of opportunity. In a community that’s growing exponentially, Mike believes that Irving deserves a representative that will carry that growth with them, not stall their progress. And now, Mike is ready to take that leadership and make Irving a model city for the rest of the state.
In the Capitol, Mike wants to fight decades of inaction in Austin to build a future where kids are safe, small businesses can grow, and everyone has a fair shot of success, just as the American Dream promised. He’s not interested in partisan shouting matches or chasing headlines— he wants real, effective results.
That’s why Mike has worked with organizations across the spectrum, from civil liberties groups protecting the rights of vulnerable populations, to public health advocates pioneering innovative new medicines to treat addictions, to make life better for Texans. Now, he’s ready to take that same commonsense, community-first approach to Austin.
As your next state representative, Mike will focus on the issues that actually affect families in Irving, like good schools, increased public safety, improving infrastructure, and expanding opportunities in Irving and beyond.
Every child in Texas deserves access to a world-class education, from Pre-K through postsecondary classes such as university, community college, or career and technical training. But session after session, instead of addressing the real needs of our schools, too many lawmakers are focused on culture war distractions that do nothing to help students, teachers, or families.
While public school budgets are being stretched thin, the legislature is diverting your tax dollars to subsidize private education for a select few. And to cover it up, they rally behind targeting our students and teachers under “wokeness.” That’s not just poor politics, it’s poor public planning, and it’s why a lot of people have lost confidence in our government.
As your representative, I’ll fight to refocus our education policy where it belongs: in the classroom. That means fully funding public schools, paying teachers the salaries they deserve, and rejecting harmful political interference like book bans and curriculum censorship.
Every Texas family deserves to send their child to a school that’s safe, inclusive, and academically strong. I’m ready to work and stand firm to deliver the future our students deserve.
When it comes to building homes, Texas is booming with building . But with more and more people moving to our great state, families are finding it harder to own an affordable home . And with rent prices soaring nationwide, state leaders continue to ignore the crisis and blame our cities for unaffordable prices instead of creating effective solutions to make buying a home more attainable to Texans. We need to put housing back on the agenda at the Capitol. That starts by investing in the kinds of smart, practical policies that help families buy their first home, expand affordable housing options, and keep neighborhoods strong without pushing people out. I support a statewide approach that partners with local governments to create more affordable housing, expand access to financing, and ensure that rising costs don’t leave hardworking Texans behind.
As your next representative, I’ll support policies that make homeownership more attainable for working families — starting with a first-time homebuyer assistance program that helps cover down payments and closing costs, particularly for our first responders and our veterans. I’ll also work to expand access to loans and mortgage programs for middle-class and lower-income families who have been priced out of the market despite doing everything right.
Finally, I’ll fight to protect renters from sudden, predatory evictions and keep our neighborhoods stable by expanding access to legal aid and offering incentives for landlords who keep housing affordable. With these solutions, we can not only continue the growth that has boosted our economy, but also ensure that Texans have a fair deal in where they live.
North Texas is growing fast, and Irving in particular has seen massive growth with new businesses moving into our little town. But far too often, working families are being left behind while big corporations keep the profits. As your next State Representative, I’ll fight for economic development that creates real opportunity for everyday Texans. That starts with putting Irving families first.
I support expanding tax credits for working and middle-class households, because when families have more breathing room, they are able to spend locally, save for the future, and help drive a stronger economy for everyone. It’s time Texas stops giving away tax breaks to companies that don’t reinvest in our communities and start rewarding the people who keep our economy moving. I believe with this drive, we can help revitalize well-positioned jobs in a variety of sectors from film & tv production, sports, and green energy.
Texas is known as a pioneer for innovation and development . I believe it is time to bring this history back to our beloved state. I’m running to bring back an economy rooted in fairness, innovation, and the idea that if you work hard, you should be able to thrive right here in North Texas.
